FIRE PIT II

This is a work in progress. The couple I am building this for hasn’t quite made up their minds on what they want to make it their own. No skin off my nose, just I need to get it done… tired of it sitting in my shop.

This is actually the cap off of the smoker I am currently building. It’s a whopping 30″ dia and weighs too much :)
It is 1/4″ thick metal with 1.5″ sq Tubing legs. It’ll make a really good fire pit, just waiting on them now…

THE TRAIN SMOKER

This is by far the biggest project I’ve started by myself. So far it’s all coming together smoothly, and when I’m done it will be for sale.

The Trailer is made out of 6″ channel and 1.5″ sq tubing. The tongue is a single 3.5″ sq tubing piece that is 1/4″ thick. The running gear (Hangers, Springs, U-bolts) are from R & J Trailers, Inc. in Seagoville, Tx. The tank is a 30″ diameter, 1/4″ thick and 5′ long. The cap on the back of the smoker was cut off and is being used for FIRE PIT II.

The tongue is actually ran through the frame and welded to the crossmembers to help secure the tongue to the trailer. There are 2 swing jacks on the front corners to help with leveling the trailer. The stack is made out of 6″ pipe from Mountain View College (where I attend welding classes) The fire box is actually built into the tank to allow for the cab to be built on the back end. It also doubles as a griddle so it truly is a Smoker/Grill.

The floor is 16 ga Sheet metal. A little thin but the cost of plate is getting high quickly. All I had to do was shore up the frame underneath the sheet just to help stiffen up the floor. The cab will be framed up and then skinned with the 16 ga.

This is the opening of the fire box. The top half is welded solid to keep the smoke and heat in. The bottom half will be closed up but it will be the door of the fire box. This plate covering the back is 1/2″ plate… got that for free :)

Hey that looks like a Train! 1.5″ sq tubing and 16 ga sheet metal really brought this thing together.

Getting real close!!
